Letter: Parking Predators

93

I am a student living in the new Heritage Halls buildings. Overall, I am very pleased with the living situation; however, one issue in particular needs to be resolved. BYU has, no doubt, spent quite a bit of money to build these beautiful new dormitories. At first, one might wonder where BYU got this kind of money during these hard economic times, but after living here for eight days, I have found the answer: parking tickets.

The new Heritage Halls buildings house roughly 1,010 students and provide no more than 43 parking spots, which means roughly 4 percent of the students living in New Heritage have a parking spot. Because of this gross lack of parking, it seems BYU parking is having a field day — and enjoying it. (I saw two parking officers taking a picture of an entire line of cars they had just ticketed.) After accumulating $70 in parking tickets, several of us have decided to appeal these tickets. It’s one thing when you park somewhere convenient to get to class, but another when you simply need to leave your car where you live.
