Tuesday

The Brigham Young University School of Music presents the University Orchestra and University Strings in concert at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall. Tickets are $3 and can be purchased at byuarts.com/tickets or at 801-422-4322.

The BYU Woodwind Chamber concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in  313 University Parkway Center located on the northeast corner of University Parkway and University Avenue. The concert will feature various student artists on clarinet, bassoon, oboe, flute, piano and piccolo. They will perform nine numbers including “While Liquid Amber” by Chaya Czernowin and the three-movement “Histoire du Tango” by Astor Piazolla.

Wednesday

Provo’s Covey Center for the Arts will host two organizations, formerly housed in the now destroyed Provo Tabernacle, for two nights of family Christmas entertainment. The Utah Valley Symphony and the Wasatch Chorale will combine for concerts on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.

Brigham Young University political science professor Valerie M. Hudson will deliver her final lecture as a BYU professor at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building. Beginning Jan. 1, 2012, Hudson will take up the George H.W. Bush Chair in the Bush School of Government at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.

Brigham Young University’s School of Music will present its Symphony Orchestra in a concert at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall. Tickets at $6 are available through the Fine Arts Ticket Office, 801-422-4322, or online at byuarts.com/tickets.

Brigham Young University’s Jazz Voices will perform its “Joyful Noise” concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. Tickets are $6 and can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, 801-422-4322, or byuarts.com/tickets.

The BYU Trombone Choir will showcase its semester’s work at 5:30 p.m. in 313 University Parkway Center located on the northeast corner of University Parkway and University Avenue. The 14-student group will be conducted by Steven Hunter. They will perform seven pieces, including “Ave Maria” by Anton Bruckner and they will end the program by ushering in the Christmas season with “Ten Christmas Carrols” by Tommy Pederson.

His Excellency Han Duk-soo, Korean ambassador to the U.S., and the Honorable Kathleen Stephens, former U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Korea, will discuss “Critical Issues in U.S.-Korean Relations” during an Ambassadors’ Dialogue at Brigham Young University.They will speak at 3 p.m. in 238 Herald R. Clark Building. The public is welcome to attend.

Thursday

“Slow Violence and the Environmentalism of the Poor” will be the lecture topic for Rob Nixon, Rachel Carson Professor of English at University of Wisconsin- Madison, at 11 a.m. in 239 Herald R. Clark Building at Brigham Young University.

“Germany and the Euro: A Current Perspective” will be the lecture topic for Wolfgang Drautz, Consul general of Germany, Los Angeles, at a Brigham Young University lecture at 4 p.m. in 1104 Jesse Knight Building.The lecture is sponsored by the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies and the public is welcome to attend.

Friday

Kangaroo Clips and Utah Valley University are excited to announce the first Kangaroo Clips Kick Off. UVU will host the flag football tournament on their intramural football fields, Dec. 2-3 and 9-10. Eight-man teams will compete for the chance to win $1,000 and other prizes.

The BYU Motion Picture Archive Film Series, part of the L. Tom Perry Special Collections, will show “It’s A Wonderful Life,” starring James Stewart, Donna Reed, Lionel Barrymore and Henry Travers, in the library auditorium on level one. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the movie will be shown at 7 p.m. The movie runs for 129 minutes. The event is free and open to the public.

The Museum of Peoples and Cultures at Brigham Young University is now featuring a story time for toddlers and preschoolers every Friday at 11 a.m. during the school year.

This year’s Brigham Young University Ballet Showcase performance offers a colorful palette of varying themes, styles and movement fully representing the diverse media of ballet Friday and Satruday, Dec. 2-3 at 7:30 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee in the Dance Production Theatre, 166 Richards Building. Admission is $6.

The Brigham Young University Combined Choirs and Philharmonic Orchestra will present their annual Christmas concert “A Celebration of Christmas” at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m in the de Jong Concert Hall.Tickets are available for general audience at $16 with $1 off for seniors and alumni and $5 off for students.

Saturday

The BYU Harp Ensemble will perform its winter concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. The concert will take the audience on a journey through the four seasons. Different students and ensembles will perform 13 numbers, including “Fantaisie” by Camille Saint-Saens and “African Reflections” by Monika Stadler. The ensemble also arranged Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” and will be performing the four arranged movements throughout the night.

Monday

The Education in Zion exhibit at Brigham Young University offers family home evening tours every second and fourth Monday in the Joseph F. Smith Building at 7 p.m.
