LaVell Edwards Stadium can be a mess after 60,000 fans consume popcorn, drinks and nachos during a game, but luckily, BYU groups have answered the call to clean the stadium after each football game.

Air Force and Army ROTC and Landscape Management are among the groups who have cleaned the stadium. The entire process takes about 160 people and 3 hours of hard work. That’s almost as long as the game itself.

“Grounds used to do it, and they decided that there were a bunch of clubs on campus and they wanted a fundraiser,” said Jared Myers, the Landscape Foreman for Grounds.

The clubs are able to raise money doing the cleaning, which includes collecting about 130 bags of garbage and40 bags or recycling.

“They all have push brooms and they push everything towards the aisle, once they push it toward the aisle they get a dustpan or something and they scoop up the trash and bag it that way,” said Myers.

After the volunteers get most of the garbage out of the way, the stadium is hosed down. Each side has 3 hoses for the workers to wash down every seat and aisle to make sure it doesn’t have any sticky garbage left over. The water trickles down the steps and is drained at the bottom on the field.
