A small electrical fire broke out Monday in Room 188 of the Widtsoe Building at approximately 6:30 p. m.

Capt. Daniel P. Cather of the Provo Fire and Rescue Department said an unknown smoke source triggered the alarm.

“Automatically it was a three-station response, which is typical of Provo,” Cather said.

One truck, one engine, one squad car and two ambulances arrived on the scene, along with BYU Police and BYU Emergency Medical Services.

The building was evacuated around 6:40 p. m., according to Maren Bayles, a sophomore from Las Vegas, who was studying in the Widtsoe Building at the time.

The fire was in a small room behind the aquariums in a hallway of the Widtsoe Building.

Cather said there was little damage.
