Letter: PC in the TC

In response to the “Testing and Gender Rights (10/18),” I agree the smallest instances of gender stereotypes can be detrimental and an indication of a larger problem on campus.

Furthermore, BYU and the Testing Center should and do provide an environment where people feel no need to assert their gender rights.

The Testing Center has strict rules and regulations regarding language, terms, phrases and labels that strive to provide a safe and relaxed environment for the student body.

There are no test drawers labeled as “boy/girl drawer.”

The tests are separated by alphabetical order, or in cases of large classes, by subject.

If any employee referred to any drawer apart from the labels written on the drawer it was done on their own accord, despite Testing Center rules and protocol.

The Testing Center considers these issues of the utmost importance, and would never condone behavior that could potentially offend BYU students.
