The Testing Center gets a little cooler

When asked how they arranged a dance party in the Testing Center, Divine Comedy member Whitney Call said, “Well, see, that’s the ‘divine’ bit.”

The dance was in celebration of Matt Meese’s birthday. The long-time member of the comedy group knew nothing regarding the dance as fellow comedian Mallory Everton led him blindfolded into the testing hall Saturday night.

What he found was a surprise for both him and others who heard of the event: The room had become a dance floor complete with fog machines and dance lights. The strained silence of the Testing Center was replaced that night with Lady Gaga and Daft Punk.

The idea for the dance location derives from Divine Comedy’s music video “Class Can’t Even Handle Me.”

The video features a student struggling to remember the answer to a test he is taking in the Testing Center. Upon remembering the answer, he and all his fellow test takers begin a dance party in the testing hall.

The music video is a cover of Flo Rida’s “Club Can’t Handle Me” and has received more than 100,000 views.

Crystal Ke, 19, from Shanghai, China, majoring in economics, said the experience helped to heal her relationship with the building.

“I just can’t be intimidated by the Testing Center ever again,” she said.

Others of the approximately 50 people who attended described the experience as “crazy” and “fun.”
