Organizers inspired by the recent “Occupy Wall Street” movement decided the message they are sharing needs to be voiced in Provo. A small organizing committee met recently to lay out plans for the Provo installment.

Dallas Urban, a Provo resident studying culinary arts, is one of the “Occupy Provo” organizers.

“I just want people to hear this message and be open-minded to it, ” Urban said. “We’re just in the planning phase right now, but I think there will be support in Provo for this movement.”

“Occupy Salt Lake City” has been organized for more than a week and the movement is trending with an increase in interest. Reports of organizing efforts being stronger came from the crowd gathered in Salt Lake City Friday night for a rally.

“I’m just tired of the system and I don’t want to be a part of it anymore, ” said James Davis, an “Occupy Salt Lake” camper. “I’ve decided that it might just be better for me to work for food and live in the park.”

Davis said big corporations and government are the targets of his ire.

Jordan Weenig, of Grand Junction, Colo., studying physiology and developmental biology, said participants need to have their own convictions.

“I think it is more important to understand the issues rather than being a part of some movement, ” Weenig said. “I don’t know if this will be successful in Provo because I think people in Provo will want to see more facts rather than emotionally following some fad.”
