News Blog: Apple releases iPhone 4S to some disappointment

Derrick Lytle:

After more than a year of waiting for the iPhone 5 Apple lovers are finally able to upgrade their phones…to an iPhone 4S, not quite what many fans had been expecting.

The disappointment comes from the fact that popular tech blogs, like TechCrunch and Mashable who excited Apple fans with posts claiming to have “spy” photos of the phone.

The iPhone 4s:

  • External appearance is essentially the same
  • Dual core A5 chip
  • 8mp camera with new optics and 1080p HD video
  • iOS5
  • Siri
  • World wide roaming

Many Apple fans are blaming the release on Tim Cook, who took control of the company after former CEO Steve Jobs, stepped down. Even with all the negativity being thrown around about Cook Gigaom is actually happy Cook is in power at Apple and not Jobs.

Putting aside who is in charge of the company Apple is expected to sell more than 100 million iPhones ( 3GS, 4 and 4S)  by the end of this year according to PC World with millions more to be sold the following year.

Even though the 4S is not the iPhone 5 many have been dreaming about it still has plenty of new features to grab the attention of Apple fans along with the ever popular Android operating system.

The dual core A5 chip is the same chip as the iPad 2 uses. With the new chip the phone will be twice as fast. Apple claims apps will load faster, graphics will render up to seven times quicker and internet pages will load up to two times quicker.

The camera is also improved when compared to previous iPhones. The camera now has an 8 megapixel sensor, a three megapixel upgrade over the previous model. The optics in the camera are also improved to help increase picture quality. Photos are able to be cropped and edited right in the phone.

The iPhone 4S shoots 1080p video to the delight of many who are now shooting and creating videos on the iPhone.

Siri is Apple’s baby in the new iPhone. The voice recognition software allows users to talk naturally to their phone. Siri actually thinks and understands on what you mean to say to help coordinate meetings, send messages and set reminders.

With the iPhone 4S it is now possible to roam worldwide on GSM networks for both GSM and CDMA customers.

Tuesday Apple reported a new tiered pricing system for the iPhone. Now the 4S, 4 and 3GS are available on multiple networks.

With the new iPhone out and many upset there are still those who see no problem with Apple’s release and in fact are happy about it,
