General Conference (Sunday afternoon): Elder Russell M. Nelson

Elder Russell M. Nelson spoke of the blessings of making, keeping and honoring sacred covenants.

He told the story of a mission president who passed away shortly after returning home from his service, and shared the words of the mission president’s wife.

“She said they were united forever,” Elder Nelson said. “They were still missionary companions, she on this side of the veil, and he on the other side. With tears of joy, she thanked God for sacred temple covenants.”

He talked about the fulfillment and blessings of the Abrahamic Covenant in the latter days.

“Together we receive these promised blessings, if we seek the Lord and obey His commandments,” Elder Nelson said. “But if we don’t, we lose the blessings of the covenant.”

Elder Nelson also explained the role of missionary work related to the Abrahamic Covenant.

“Ours is the seed foreordained and prepared to bless all people of the world,” Elder Nelson said. “This is the time of the promised gathering of Israel. And we get to participate.”

He said blessings of the covenant are knowledge of who we are as well as clearer understanding of the future and the past.

“When we realize that we are children of the covenant, we know who we are and what God expects of us,” Elder Nelson said.
