Tim Smith, a faculty member in the Brigham Young University Department of Counseling Psychology and Special Education, was recently elected a Fellow of the American Psychological Association.

Fellowship is a peer-nominated distinction honoring research achievement and professional contributions. Selection as a Fellow of the American Psychological Association indicates an “unusual and outstanding contribution or performance in the field of psychology,” advancing the field and incorporating innovative ideas, according to the APA.

Smith became one of only six BYU faculty members to receive this recognition, and is the first to be nominated by APA Division 17: Counseling Psychology.
