Cougar fans can get an in-depth look at the 2011 BYU football team with a new, interactive fan guide released by the athletic program recently.

The fan guide is available at no cost for download at BYU2011Football.com. The guide includes player profiles, a preview of this year’s opponents, highlights from the previous season and a complete roster of the team.

“I think it is cool that all the students can get it, ” said Jason Anderson, a psychology major from Whittier, Calif.  “I can’t afford the program at the stadium every game, so this is a nice way to get to know the team better.”

The guide, which can be downloaded as a PDF, creates an opportunity for fans to share easily and electronically.

“Going digital gives the fan guide a larger audience than we previously had with the printed edition,” said Michael Iverson, an account executive at IMG College, the group that created the guide for BYU Athletics. “It is another thing that fans can get excited about.”

Students can download the fan guide onto their smartphones, which allows much more ease of access than past years.

“Having it available on my smartphone is a really nice feature, because it means I can pull it out at the game or whenever I want,” Anderson said. “It’s really cool. It’s something I’d want to share on Facebook.”

The guide is informative for all fans, from the newly converted to the weathered members of Cougar Nation. With the player profiles pages, fans are able to take a closer look at this squad’s key players and starters, such as Jake Heaps, JJ Di Luigi, Bryan Kariya, Cody Hoffman, Jordan Pendleton, Eathyn Manumaleuna and Matt Reynolds.

“The player [pictures] are sweet, and seeing stats from their last season is a nice feature too,” Anderson said.

The fan guide also gives a description of the coaching staff. Included is a biography on the new wide receivers coach, Ben Cahoon, who joined the staff after retiring from a career in the Canadian Football League.

“We wanted to give Cougar fans a chance to meet some of the coaches, guys like Brandon Doman and Ben Cahoon,” Iverson said . “We have a great coaching staff, and this is a way to learn more about the excellent crew that Bronco has brought together.”

The guide also offers students deals at local businesses in the area who are sponsors of the BYU football program. The advertisements allow users to access the companies website to learn more about the offered products.

“The corporate partners wanted to show their support of BYU athletics, and the interactive ads gives them an excellent opportunity to show that to the fans,” Iverson said.
