Suspicious persons intimidate outside King Henry apartments

Provo Police officers came to the aid of two women who had been approached by two males impersonating police officers at approximately 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Officers took the complaint of a female just outside King Henry Apartments who stated two males driving a silver vehicle pulled up alongside her and a friend and told them they were with the Provo Police. They told the women they were looking into rapes in the surrounding areas. When one of the women said they were OK the men responded by saying, “Well good because I’d rape you.”

They also told the two women they needed to go inside because they were breaking the 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. curfew. The men then told the women that they could use force if needed to move them inside.

“Our hope is that we can get info from the students to identify them,” Sergeant Mathew J. Siufanua of the Provo Police Department said. “We need to find these guys and find who they are. Impersonating a police officer is a class B misdemeanor so it’s not a real serious crime, but given what they said and the time of night, it is a red flag and we should look into it.”

The suspects are described as white males in their mid 20s with long black hair. The victims said they believe the vehicle they were driving was a silver Subaru with a California license plate. One was wearing an Angels baseball cap and the other was wearing a Diamondbacks baseball cap. The California license plate number has been given to University Police and they are helping with the investigation as well, according to Siufanua.

“It is not unusual for them to give us the plate and to have us run it through the database of registered plates,” Lieutenant Arnold Lemmon, University Police, said. “We have special license plate cameras that capture the license plate and we are able to identify vehicles.”

Investigators are seeking as much help as possible identifying the suspects.

“What we need is witnesses,” Siufanua said.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspects please contact the Provo Police Department at 801-852-7271.
