Tuesday, July 26

  • University Forum: Laura Padilla-Walker, assistant professor in the School of Family Life, will speak at a Brigham Young University forum at 11:05 a.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall. Walker’s address, “Seize the Day: A Proactive Approach to Parenting Teens,” will cover how current and future parents and leaders can proactively help teenagers navigate the difficulties of the adolescent  years.
  • Withdraw/Discontinuance deadline: Tuesday is the last day students can withdraw from or discontinue summer term classes.

Thursday, July 28

  • Farmers Market: More than 25 booths featuring locally grown produce, baked goods and crafts will be available during the second Brigham Young University LaVell Edwards Stadium Farmers Market. The market runs from 3 to 8 p.m. in the Stadium South Parking Lot.

Friday, July 29

  • Mystery Dinner Date Night: Brigham Young University’s Museum of Peoples and Cultures is hosting “The Disappearance of the Weaving Swords” dinner night. The mystery dinner starts at 6 p.m. in the museum, located at 100 East and 700 North in Provo. Tickets are $24 per couple and include dinner and a dessert. Tickets are available at the Wilkinson Student Center Information Desk.

Monday, August 1

  • “Into Africa” exhibit opens: The Monte L. Bean’s “Into Africa” exhibit opens, starting at 6 p.m. “Into Africa” was an entire year in the making and features hand painted panoramic murals of Africa’s landscape completed by the exhibit’s graphic designer, Randal Baker, and several of his student employees.

Tuesday, August 2

  • “Little Women” auditions:  The SCERA Center for the Arts is holding auditions for “Little Women.” The musical, based on the Louisa May Alcott novel, will play Sept. 16-Oct. 8. Auditions will be held from 6-10 p.m. in Room B1 of the SCERA Center for the Arts, at 745 South State in Orem. Callbacks will be on Aug. 3 for those invited. Auditioners should come prepared to sing 16 bars from a contemporary musical theater piece. All roles are available, and there are roles for women and men of all ages. No appointment is necessary to audition. SCERA will provide CD or iPOD playback or an accompanist will be provided (please bring your own music). For more information, contact SCERA at 801-225-ARTS or visit scera.org.
  • Campus Devotional: Janet Bradford, of the HBLL, will give the university Devotional at 11:05 in the de Jong Concert Hall. Her address will be broadcast live on the BYU Broadcasting channels and at byub.org.  Rebroadcast and archive information will be available atbyub.org/devotionals or speeches.byu.edu.
