Tuesday, June 7

Campus Devotional: Larry Howell, professor of mechanical engineering, will give the university Devotional at 11 a.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall. The address will be broadcast live on the BYU Broadcasting channels and at byub.org.  Rebroadcast and archive information will be available atbyub.org/devotionals or speeches.byu.edu.

Wednesday, June 8

Spring Opera: The annual BYU spring opera will perform the two-act opera “Beatrice et Benedict” by Hector Berlioz. Based upon William Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing,” the opera starts at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall and runs nightly through Saturday. Students will present opera scenes that educate and enrich the audience. Dialogue will be performed in English. Songs will be performed in French with English supertitles. Tickets are $6.

Thursday, June 9

Language Learners Symposium: Educators and professionals will gather to discuss issues surrounding children and families learning English at the Third Annual English Language Learners Symposium, from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday. This year’s symposium is themed “Family, School and Community Collaboration.” Registration is $100 for a two-day non-credit ticket, $130 for a two-day one-credit ticket and $50 for a two-day morning keynote sessions ticket.

Friday, June 10

Movie: Joseph Vilsmaier’s 1993 film “Stalingrad” will be shown at 5 p.m. in 238 HRCB. The film is a depiction of the brutal battle of Stalingrad, the Third Reich’s ‘high water mark,’ as seen through the eyes of German officer Hans von Witzland and his battalion. Snacks are provided.

Saturday, June 11

Laugh Out Loud: Local comedians will perform at “Laugh Out Loud,” a comedian showcase, at 8 p.m. in room 214 of the Crabtree Building. Tickets are $2 in advance at the Wilkinson Student Center information desk and $3 at the door.
