Cougars Head to Texas

    BYU softball (11-7) heads to College Station, Texas to compete in the Aggie Classic today through Saturday.

    The Cougars will play five games, beginning today with a match up against the Texas A&M Aggies (22-3) at 6 p.m. On Friday, BYU plays Illinois (12-8) at 12:15 p.m. and the Aggies again at 5:15 p.m. The tournament will wrap up on Saturday when the Cougars play Illinois at 10 a.m. and No. 18 Louisiana Lafayette (10-3) at 12:15 p.m.

    “We are working on maintaining longer stretches of quality play,” BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said in a news release. “We need to have solid pitching, good defense and strength at the plates for longer time periods.”

    Offensively, BYU has hit 21 home runs this season and has a batting average of .294. At the pitcher”s mound, Christina Gwyn Trice leads the team. So far this season, she has 88 strikeouts and a 1.15 ERA.
