On Saturday, the BYU-Hawaii and the Church College of Hawaii Alumni Association will be hosting its first event of the year: “A Fireside with the Presidents.”

The reunion fireside, on the evening of President Hinckley”s funeral, will be in the Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center at 6:30 p.m.

The BYU-Hawaii Alumni Association is hoping to reawaken the spirit of “aloha.”

President Hinckley spoke about the spirit of aloha during BYU-Hawaii”s 2003 commencement, according to a news release.

“Take it with you, and never shed it,” he said. “May your dreams be great and your desires uplifting.”

The program will feature past BYU-Hawaii University presidents, the former president of the Polynesian Cultural Center, and a special DVD presentation by S.C. Wheelwright, the current president of BYU-Hawaii.

A.L. Wade, J.E. Cameron and D.W. Anderson are some of the former presidents who will be addressing attendees.

The fireside will include a hula prelude and a choir presentation.

The BYU-Hawaii Alumni Association estimates that 400-500 people will be in attendance.

Laura Malzl, the co-chapter chair from the BYU-Alumni Association, said the evening should be a wonderful event to rekindle friendships and celebrate President Hinckley”s life as the group celebrates in the Hinckley Alumni Building.
