A group of BYU students from Virginia have organized a candlelight vigil to show respect and remembrance for those who were killed in the recent shooting incident at Virginia Tech.

The vigil, approved by university administration, will be Friday at 8 p.m. in Brigham Square. All are invited and candles will be provided.

Since Friday has been declared National Orange and Maroon Effect day, the BYU Virginians are also encouraging campus students and faculty to wear maroon and orange that day.

A large banner will be available for people to sign at the vigil and all day Friday on the west end of the Terrace in the Wilkinson Student Center. The completed banner will be sent to Virginia Tech.

Earlier in the week President Cecil O. Samuelson sent a personal letter of condolence to Virginia Tech President Charles Steger, and the prayer at the weekly devotional focused on those trying to recover from the tragic shootings at Virginia Tech.

The university encourages continued prayer on their behalf. Those who wish to donate funds to lend assistance to victims and their families are asked to do so through the official Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund at Virginia Tech and to avoid unprofessional or fraudulent donation attempts.
