The Kimball Art Center in Park City is presenting an exhibition through April 20 celebrating art by Latino artists who live in Utah.

This is the third year the Kimball Art Center will present an exhibition of Latino art.

“Arte Latino has been a tremendous success, and we are proud to host this third annual event for the community,” said Pam Crowe-Weisberg, the Kimball Art Center director in a news release. “Latinos are an important part of the Utah population and it is an honor to celebrate their art and rich culture.”

The purpose of the celebration of Latino art is to inspire interest, understanding and dialogue between the people of the United States and the people from Latin American countries.

The Latino Art exhibition displays artwork from 12 Latino artists from countries such as Argentina, Chile, Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico, among others.

“Their art has a cultural flare and a deep meaning about the life of these artists,” said Susan Thomas, Kimball Art Center public relations director. “It is educational and informative. I have personally learned a lot about Latino culture and Latino issues by looking at their art, hearing their stories and the stories behind the art.”

The exhibit displays three galleries of Latino artwork. One focuses on the type of artwork that reflects the diversity of history, ethnic groups, culture and points of view through painting, drawing, photography, mixed media and sculpture.

Another gallery of Latino art is an exhibition of photography by Guadalupe Sandoval Rodriguez, a Latino artist raised in California.

The last art gallery is called La Loteria, a popular Mexican game of chance. Through this exhibition, Latin artists share recognizable Mexican traditions, historical figures, gastronomy and popular culture.

In addition to the three galleries, the Kimball Art Center is offering “Free Family Art Saturday” on April 14. Through this program for families, children will learn about art and will also be able to have a hands-on art project.
