Local Organization Begins Countrywide Food Drive

    The Community Action Services Food Bank will have its annual food drive Saturday throughout Utah County, marking 40 years, according to the Community Action Services Food Bank Web site.

    “It is so exciting,” said Myla Dutton, executive director of the organization. “We”ll have 400-plus cars … and thousands of volunteers.”

    Dutton was referring to cars filled with non-perishable food and hygiene products.

    The Community Action Services Food Bank, Utah Park Council”s Boy Scouts of America and the Utah National Guard will all help with retrieving and delivering the donated items.

    According to Karen Frost, Good Turn for America event coordinator for the Boy Scouts of America, approximately 487,000 pounds of food was donated and delivered to needy families across the state of Utah and along its border.

    Residents are encouraged to leave non-perishable items in the donation bag, which will be retrieved Saturday morning, starting at 9 a.m.

    The food drive will be collected at 815 South Freedom Blvd. in Provo.
