Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, two local agencies will introduce the Network of Care for Mental Health & Substance Abuse Web site at the Provo City Library.

The Utah County Division of Substance Abuse and Wasatch Mental Heath are sponsoring this kick-off event for those concerned with mental health. Angela Smart from the Utah Behavior Healthcare Network will give a 20-minute presentation on how to access and use the Web site.

“It gives the community a simple place to find out [about] mental abuse problems and services,” said Richard Nance, a director for the Utah County Division of Substance Abuse. “This is the first Web site to link multiple states and counties to find services.”

The Web site provides a library that contains more than 30,000 articles, fact sheets and reports about mental health issues. It also includes a directory of offices that can provide information about addiction and substance abuse. The Web site also lists links to find online information about government programs and non-profit organizations that specialize in mental health issues.

Nance said that he received weekly phone calls from people seeking treatments for their family members who have mental issues. This Web site can give them quick access to the offices where they can get that help.

The Web site is available in eight languages, including English, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Cambodian and Korean.

The kick-off event will begin at 10 a.m. It is open to the public. For more information, please visit utah.ut.networkofcare.org or call 851-7127.
