    Theft

    July 10-11: A Panasonic brand projector, valued at $4,910, was reported stolen from the WSC. In addition to the projector, a long-throw lens and camera case were also taken. The lens estimated value was $1,400 and the case $300. The total loss was estimated at $6,600 and constitutes a felony.

    July 11: An electric scooter was taken from outside the Harold B. Lee Library. The scooter, which was locked at the time, is valued at $150.

    July 12: Some copper wire was stolen from the Jesse Knight Building construction site. The copper wire was valued at $1000.

    July 14: A heavy-duty welding cord was stolen from the Leo B. Ellsworth Meat and Livestock Center. The cord is valued at $100.

    July 14: An EFY participant reported his entire suitcase missing after he left it on the curb while waiting for his ride. The youth claimed to have left the suitcase unattended to get something left behind in Heritage Halls and when he returned, the suitcase was gone. Police are investigating the matter.

    July 14: A bike was stolen from a bike rack outside the Clyde Engineering Building. The bike, a red and gray Liahona mountain bike, was left unlocked and is valued at $100.

    July 17: Police were again called to the Ellsworth Meat and Livestock Center after several individuals were seen removing scrap metal from the construction site. The individuals claimed they were there working. One individual was arrested for an outstanding warrant and the others were let go pending confirmation of their story.

    Accidents

    July 10: In lot three, north of the WSC, a van was found damaged when the owner returned. The incident is considered a hit-and-run.

    July 11: On East Campus Drive, near Heritage Halls, a vehicle struck another car after failing to yield while turning.

    July 17: In lot 16, northwest of the ASB, an individual hit a car and left a note with contact information. The estimated damage is $1,594.

    July 17: Another hit-and-run occurred in lot 20 by the Marriott Center. The damage is estimated at $600 and police have no suspects.

    Criminal Mischief

    July 10: A BYU student was issued a citation for skateboarding in Brigham’s Square. This particular student had previously been warned twice for the same offense.

    July 14: Three individuals were issued citations for throwing water balloons at pedestrians near the traffic office. Throwing any projectile at an individual or vehicle is considered “throwing missiles” and carries a maximum fine of $299 or six months in jail, or both.

    July 16: A male visitor was issued a trespassing ticket after police ran a check on the man and found that he has a permanent ban from campus. Individuals can be banned from campus for various reasons, since it is private property.

    Suspicious Activity

    July10: Police were called after solicitors were found outside the ASB speaking about casting out devils. They were referred to the dean of student life to gain permission to be allowed to promote their cause.

    July 11: An employee contacted police about an individual sleeping on a couch in the WSC over the course of several days. The individual was gone when police arrived, but the individual is believed to be a transient.

    July 11: An individual was seen hiding in the bushes near the Risk Management Office. The person was gone when police arrived.

    July 12: A female student contacted police after being asked personal questions by a male student on Brigham’s Square. The questions alarmed the female, but police determined the questions were not in violation of any laws, but were “more in depth” than most people are used to when they first meet another.

    July 15: A married couple returned to their home at Wymount Terrace and called police to report that someone may have been inside their apartment. They told police certain things around their apartment seemed out of place, and the sliding door was slightly opened. Upon questioning, the couple and police determined the sliding door had probably been left unlocked, and nothing was changed or taken.
