With posters on her wall, a screensaver on her computer and the same CD on repeat in her room, one would say Becky Taylor is obsessed.

“I love John Mayer,” said Taylor, 21, from Bountiful.

Last Thursday at the USANA Amphitheater was a special night for Taylor and two other BYU students. John Mayer and Maroon 5 performed in front of 20,000 screaming fans.

“My favorite part of every John Mayer concert is when he sings ”Your body is a Wonderland,”” Taylor said.

Taylor said she wants to see Mayer in concert as many times as she can.

“This is the third time I have seen him in concert, each time he gets better and better,” she said.

Taylor plans on going to Phoenix July 20 to see Mayer in concert again.

“I love his voice and because he is so good looking,” she said.

Taylor said she waits at least two hours after every concert to see if she can get any closer to Mayer.

But even with the hours she spends waiting after concerts, listening to his CDs and staring at posters, Taylor says there are people who are more obsessed than her when it comes to John Mayer.

Then there is Ryan Sager, 24, from Boise, Idaho, who enjoys Mayer”s music for a different reason.

“John Mayer is totally fluent in the language of music,” Sager said.

Sager said he has been a fan of Mayer since the album “Room for Squares” came out about three years ago. He said Mayer is not the typical rock and pop music sound, but instead uses a lot of jazz chords that add flavor to his music.

“A lot of music that we hear on the radio is pretty simple, but Mayer”s music is a lot more complex than that,” Sager said. “He is a great lyric writer.”

The energy that Mayer brings to the stage is amazing, Mayer sings the music 100 percent and really gets into it, said Sager.

“I appreciate the musical theory behind what Mayer is trying to do,” Sager said.

Sager feels Mayer writes his songs so listeners can relate to them.

“His lyrics are really personal, which makes him come across as very confident,” he said.

Thursday was also special for Allyson Bateman, 21, from Boise, Idaho. Maroon 5 opened for Mayer and is one of Bateman”s favorite bands.

“I like Maroon 5 because the music is different enough to be catchy,” Bateman said.

Bateman said Maroon 5 is different from what is normally played on the radio, and that the band”s emotion and passion does not only come from the music.

“All the band members are pretty sexy,” she said.

Bateman said she has been a fan of Maroon 5 for six years now, long before they became well known.

“When they added the soul and funk into their music they began to get noticed more,” she said.

Bateman said she believes she is a true fan because she has followed Maroon 5 since the beginning and not just since the band became more popular.

“I feel like I”m part of the band,” Bateman said.
