The Women”s Services and Resources will host a Women in Scriptures workshop series during the month of November.

“We tend not to notice women in scriptures and there are really remarkable women who played significant roles in building the Lord”s Kingdom throughout the scriptures,” said LaNae Valentine, Director of Women”s Services and Resources.

Workshop speakers will be Margot Butler a former church educator for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Camille Fronk, BYU assistant professor of ancient scripture and Mary Jane Woodger.

The workshop will be held every Thursday for an hour at 11:00 a.m. in 3223 in the Wilkinson Student Center.

Butler, a former institute teacher, will speak today on women in the Old Testament.

Fronk, will speak Nov. 14 on women in the New Testament, and Woodger will speak Nov. 21 on searching for a female role model in the Doctrine and Covenants.

Women”s Services and Resources chose to do a series on women in the scriptures to spread awareness of female role models in the scriptures.

“There is a lot to be learned from this series. Many don”t notice the significant role of women in the scriptures,” Valentine said.

The Women”s Resources and Services said they hope the series helps others realize the large amount of women in the scriptures.

“There are more women in the scriptures than people think. There are over 170 named women in all of scripture, most found in the Bible, and some of the greatest women are not named,” Fronk said.

The speakers will discuss the importance of unnamed women in the scriptures.

“Women in the scriptures send a message to us today that women today can make a contribution in the world, the church and the community without necessarily having a title, a position or a calling that would give them a name,” Fronk said.

“Most of the good works done by women whose names are virtually unknown by the world are definitely known by the people they help.”

Women briefly mentioned in the scriptures still have great importance, Fronk said.

“Value and worth are not measured by column inches in the scriptures,” she said.
