A trip to an afternoon bridal shower turned into a broadside collision Saturday afternoon, Jan. 12, just east of the Wilkinson Student Center.

A green Toyota Camry heading south on Campus Drive collided with a gray Ford Contour at approximately 12:40 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 12, causing damages to both cars but resulting in no injuries.

Chris Larson, 21, a junior studying pre-business management had just dropped off his fianc?e at the library and was heading south in the middle-right lane of Campus Drive when Christina Lyon, 19, from Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas made an illegal left turn into traffic.

Larson”s Camry struck Lyon”s vehicle on the driver”s side, where it continued on into the ditch on the other side of the road.

Four friends, all roommates, were together in the car with Lyon on their way to a friend”s bridal shower when the car was struck.

Sarah Richins, 21, a senior studying marriage, family and human development, from Orlando, Fla., said a parked bus in the far right hand lane obstructed their view of the oncoming traffic.

“We were coming out of the turn-around, and when I saw another car coming, I called out ”Christina! Christina!” ” Richins said.

Sgt. Bob Eyre, university police officer who was in the area at the time of the accident said he saw the immediate aftermath. Lyon will be charged with making an improper left turn, Eyre said.
