Letter to the editor: BCS musings

    88

    Dear Editor,

We hate to say it, but some of the BYU players and fans need a serious reality check. We find the comments of one letter writer particularly amusing — does he really believe that BYU should get a shot at Miami? Are you kidding? Does he follow college football? Did he see what Miami did to two solid teams (Syracuse and Washington) the past two weeks? Does he hope to expose our team for the fraud that it is? We echo the thoughts of sports aficionado Jim Rome in saying that we are not deserving of a BCS berth. The BCS rankings reflect not only wins, but also strength of schedule and quality wins. Sure Tulane and Nevada are national powerhouses, but they don’t quite match up to SEC, Big Ten, and Pac Ten competitions.

In addition, if we are giving up 600 yards a game to teams like Wyoming, then what do we think will happen when Chris Simms or Joey Harrington get a shot at us?

Kudos to Coach Crowton and the guys on a great year, but enough with the call for fair treatment. We haven’t beaten a ranked team all year, and the bowl bid that we receive should reflect that. Good luck to the team in Mississippi this week.
