    President James E. Faust, second counselor in the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will speak at a special Education Week devotional tomorrow at 11:10 a.m. in the Marriott Center.

    In the Church News printed Nov. 22 1997, President Faust wrote about the importance of education.

    “Learning and education have always been the hallmark of our people,” he wrote. “Every president of the Church, beginning with President Joseph Smith, has zealously fostered, encouraged and supported the cause of education. The reason for this emphasis is that education equates to our eternal well-being.”

    President Faust currently serves as vice chairman of the Church Board of Education and holds a membership on the board of trustees of Brigham Young University.

    In 1948, President Faust earned his BA and juris doctorate from the University of Utah. He was also awarded an honorary doctoral degree from Brigham Young University in 1997.

    He served in the Utah Legislature from 1949 to 1951, and was president of the Utah Bar Association in 1962-63.

    President Faust”s devotional will also be broadcast live on KBYU-TV (channel 11) and KBYU-FM (89.1). KBYU-FM can be accessed over the Internet as well, at http://www.kbyu.org. It will be rebroadcast Sunday at 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. and on KBYU-FM at 8 p.m.
