Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, member of the Quorum of the Twelve apostles will speak at the Devotional Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. in the Marriott Center.
Elder Wirthlin was ordained an apostle in October 1986. He previously served as an Assistant to the Council of the Twelve Apostles in 1975 until his calling to the First Quorum of the Seventy in 1976.
Before his calling as a general authority, he was a prominent Salt Lake City business leader and a Utah trade association president.
Elder Wirthlin served in the Germany, Austria and Switzerland mission in the late 1930s. He has served in stake and ward auxiliary positions. He was called as first counselor in the Sunday School general presidency in 1971.
He has also served as executive director of the LDS Curriculum Department and as editor of the church magazines.
Elder Wirthlin now serves as a member of the Missionary Executive Council and of the Welfare Services Committee. He is the chairman of the Humanitarian Committee, a subcommittee of the General Welfare Services Committee; chairman of the Boundary and Leadership Change Committee; a member of the Quorum of the Twelve for five areas in North America.
The Devotional will be broadcast live in the Joseph Smith Building, on KBYU-TV (channel 11) and on KBYU-FM (89.1).
