The Salt Lake Buzz shook off their pitching woes on Thursday, July 27, in their 9-5 win over the Las Vegas Stars.

Pitcher Matt Kinney produced perhaps his best performance in AAA ball, going eight innings and striking out eight batters while allowing only one run.

The bottom of the fifth inning turned out big for the Buzz. The first six batters each scored, with Torii Hunter popping a triple and Brian Buchanan knocking a two-run single.

“If everyone does their job, then the winning will come,” said Buchanan. Not surprisingly Buchanan did his part, driving in two runs in three at bats and scoring himself.

Javier Valentine drove in four runs on two hits and scored twice, while John Barnes scored two runs on two hits with a solo homer.

Salt Lake had a field day with Stars pitcher Rodrigo Lopez scoring five runs on nine hits to give him the loss.

The Buzz are 2-0 in the series and gear up for a double header on Friday, July 28, at 5pm at Franklin Covey Field.
