Provo Fight Club dealt themselves a KO but gives media the credit.

Seven of the 10 original Fight Club organizers held a press conference in their front lawn May 25, to announce they have officially disbanded Fight Club…for the second time.

“We just said we were done before to get the media off our back,” said organizer Brian Drummond.

Organizers said they want the public to believe Fight Club is truly quitting this time.

“I’ll give you my word, and that’s worth a lot,” said organizer Zak Kroepel.

The club originally started with a couple of the organizers’ roommates who had some disagreements and decided to schedule a time to settle it, said organizer Matt Grandon.

The fights quickly got out of hand, and because of media, people think the club is shady, organizers said.

“There were never any negative feelings associated with the fights. It was a good thing, a social thing,” Grandon said.

Grandon emphasized the clubs primary purpose was to have fun, not make money, yet Grandon admitted they had made money.

Extra!, a news show, paid the organizers for tape footage and rights to run a story, Grandon said.

Organizers contacted other local news outlets in an attempt to sell fight footage.

Despite lying to the public that they had once stopped the club, fight organizers were dismayed at the fact that people have questioned their integrity.

“We have been honest with everybody since the beginning,” Drummond said.

The media have made people form certain opinions that are not true, Drummond said.

“Yeah, it’s the media’s fault that this has turned out bad,” he said.

Organizers shared their thoughts that boxing was just good fun and they know families who like to get out on the lawn and box.

One organizer said their dads were happy with them when they won, yet they admitted that someone could get hurt, and the club wasn’t fun anymore, so they are quitting.

Having fun was the main reason for the club, and if fun is no longer had, then organizers said they want to get on with their lives…and have fun.

“It’s kinda fun to be famous for a little while,” Drummond said.
