Dear Editor:
The letter to the editor regarding lack of morality in our society (May 19) probably has some degree of truth in it. However, the tie about lack of morality to protection of freedom, i.e., the need for every red-blooded American citizen to be armed to the teeth, so that we can ward off the evil foe, eludes me.
Society needs to be protected from itself, and that is a good and valid use of government. As long as the NRA and ACLU are in control of the country, and define what is important, “lack of morality” is a moot point. Individuals need to express their ideas and not echo the NRA or that latest right wing clap trap. Please be responsible in your letters and don’t minimize tragedy in another “protect our personal rights” diatribe.
