Just when you thought you couldn’t get enough of BYU sports, cougarfan.com has been developed for the true Cougar fanatics.
Started up by recent BYU graduate John Ahlander, cougarfan.com combines all of the Internet resources available to provide daily updates on Cougar athletics.
“My purpose is to try and get one spot for fans to get all the BYU sports information so they don’t have to go all over the Internet,” Ahlander said. “I scour the Internet for all of the resources and then pull it all together.”
Ahlander provides a link to the official BYU Athletics home page, as well as to local newspapers and NewsNet, the student-run university news service.
Visitors to cougarfan.com can also subscribe to free daily e-mail updates, which include once-a-week sports calendars and “Pro Watch,” an update on former BYU athletes now in professional sports leagues. All game previews and recaps are made available on the site as well.
“One of the coolest things is the e-mail. Nobody else does it, so it’s kind of unique,” Ahlander said.
The e-mail service has been a hit with students who enjoy being spectators of BYU athletic events.
“I like (getting the e-mail) because it tells me when BYU sports are coming up,” said Molly Furner, a master’s student in accounting from Gaithersburg, Md.
Ahlander graduated with a degree in information systems in December. He started cougarfan.com with his best friend Chris Kelly as a personal hobby to combine both his interests in computers and sports.
“I love sports, and I’m a huge fan of BYU sports especially,” he said. “I also enjoy computers a lot. I decided to do it because no one else was doing it.”
As a recent alumnus, Ahlander is particularly interested in facilitating access to BYU sports information for graduates who may have moved out of the areaand otherwise would be less able to keep up on their alma mater.
Ahlander updates his site daily. The CougarFan website can be accessed at .
