The Marriott School’s master of organizational behavior program will present its third annual William G. Dyer Distinguished Alumni Award to Paul W. Gustavson at a banquet Thursday night.

Friday morning Gustavson will deliver a presentation titled “Leveraging Knowledge Capital as a Source of Competitive Advantage (You Get What you Design For).” Students are invited to attend his lecture.

Gustavson is president of Organizational Planning and Design Inc., a leading organization design consulting firm specializing in strategic alignment, knowledge management, change management and the design of high-performance work systems. He is credited with integrating and refining an organizational design architectural model and methodology used by many Fortune 500 companies.

Gibb Dyer, director of the Marriott School’s MOB program, will present the award. Dyer characterized Gustavson as a man who has successfully maintained his integrity in the business world and selflessly donated his time and talents to worthy causes.

“In addition to being a noted author, lecturer and consultant, he has made a tremendous contribution to our program,” Dyer said.

Dyer said that Gustavson’s work as the president of the MOB advisory board has been an invaluable asset to the school over the last few years.

Gustavson graduated from the Marriott School’s MOB program in 1975 and has worked for Amoco, as well as several high-technology start-up firms. His work has been featured in several periodicals, including “Business Week,” The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and “Fortune.”

The Dyer Distinguished Alumni Award is given to an alumnus of at least 10 years who has made a significant contribution in the field of organizational behavior.
