Officers arrested 23-year-old Jacob A. Hillyard as the shooting suspect in Thursday’s high speed chase that led through several Utah County cities, according to Lt. Bob Conner.

According to a news release from the Orem Deparment of Public Safety, the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force caught up with Hillyard at approximately 1 a.m. Friday in the parking lot of Smith’s Food King in Salt Lake City. After the suspect spotted the officers, Conner said he again fled in another vehicle, leading Police on another chase. Hillyard then abandoned his car and Police pursued him into a residence where he was taken into police custody, said Conner.

Police found evidence which led them to Hillyard’s home in the stolen maroon pickup truck that the suspect had abandoned in Pleasant Grove, said Conner.

According to Conner, evidence has been found to tie Hillyard to crimes in both Orem and Pleasant Grove. Hillyard is charged with several felonies, including: Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Burglary, Aggravated Assault, Attempted Homicide, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and Evading. Officers expect other charges to come as the investigation continues, said Conner.
