Rebounds are what great forwards do; and last year Lori Cuff did a lot of them, enough to lead the team in shear numbers.

Cuff, the former Lori Henry, a 20-year-old junior from Orem, majoring in health education and physical education coaching, plays forward for the BYU women’s basketball team. Cuff is a quick, 6′-1″ player who has a promising 98-99 season, said Norma Collett, athletic media director for BYU.

With two years experience under her belt, Cuff will prove an asset for the women’s team, Collett said. Last year, Cuff pulled off a personal record number of rebounds in the Wyoming game, a total of 12. This year she hopes to do no less, Cuff said.

Cuff has always loved the game. She played ball at Mt. View high school in Orem.

Cuff added that she comes from an “athletic family,” many of whom play basketball. Cuff’s older sister, Kim Henry, played on the BYU’s women’s team three years ago, Cuff said.

This season won’t be exactly easy, Cuff said, due to surgery that she had on both ankles over the summer. According to Cuff the ligaments “loosened up” and needed surgery. Cuff plans on playing as usual as long as the ankles hold up.

“I’ll be getting back to my game, playing defense and doing a lot of rebounds,” Cuff said when asked what her season goals were.

Cuff is confident in the team’s ability to succeed this season.

“We’ll do really well,” she said.

Cuff is looking forward to playing ball and a great season.
