The theme of the General Relief Society Meeting Saturday is, “Let Us Walk in the Light of the Lord.”
The General Relief Society Meeting will begin Saturday at 6 p.m. and will be broadcast throughout the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
Anticipated speakers include President Gordon B. Hinckley, Mary Ellen W. Smoot, General Relief Society President, and her counselors Virginia U. Jensen and Sheri L. Dew.
“Although they (the speakers) have not made their topics public yet, I am sure they will address topics that are appropiate for the Relief Society Women,” said Don LeFevre, of the LDS Church public relations department.
Meg Lorimer, a sophomore from Holladay majoring in communications said she is very excited for the General Relief Society Meeting.
“This is one of my favorite meetings of the whole year,” she said.
Lorimer said she still remembers last year when they sang `As Sisters in Zion’ and added, “I love that song!”
“It is great because it always focuses on what we can do as women to further the work and be effective members of society,” Lorimer said.
A representative for the Relief Society department indicated that it was not important to know before the conference began what the topics of the speeches would be.
“The topics will just have to come out in the conference. However, you can bet they will be important to the women,” she said.
The musical portion of the program will be furnished by a combined Relief Society of stake members from six stakes in the Cache Valley area of Utah.
Relief Society is the largest women’s organizations in the world, with 4.2 million members.
The General Relief Society Meeting will be broadcast live at 6 p.m. in local stake centers and will be rebroadcast on KBYU-TV at 8 p.m.
The live broadcast of the meeting will also be available for viewing at the Marriot Center on BYU campus.
