Utah Arts Festival to represent today’s culture

The 22nd annual Utah Arts Festival presents its patrons today through Sunday with “Art That Moves You,” bringing much of the entertainment off the stages and onto the streets among festival-goers.

The idea is for the public to become a part of the show and for the show to mimic the frenzied activity experienced everyday by ordinary people.

“Art, by its very nature, has always reflected the thoughts and passions of a culture at a given time in that culture’s history,” said Robyn Nelson, Utah Arts Festival Executive Director. The 1998 Utah Arts Festival seeks to tap into the psyche of its patrons and give everyone an outlet to express what is moving us at this point in time.”

According to Nelson, the festival provides a chance for Utahns to both express themselves and share in the expressions of others.

“It gives us a chance to appreciate our differences and celebrate our similarities — the shared experiences that unite us,” Nelson said.

The festival is at the Triad Center and Delta Center in Salt Lake City. Call (801) 322-2428 or visit www.uaf.org for more information.
