    COMEDY: The Garrens Comedy Troupe will perform all-improvisation shows at 7:30 and 9:15 in 205 JRCB. Tickets are $4 at 7:30, $5 at 9:15.     MUSIC — CHOIR: The Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus, conducted by Julian Ackerley, will perform in the Assembly Hall on Temple Square in Salt Lake City at 7:30 p.m. The program is entitled “Heaven Hath a Song,” and it will feature music from the baroque and Renaissance periods, classic and romantic eras, and from modern composers. Admission is free.

    BOOK SIGNING: Barnes & Noble, 330 E. University Parkway, Orem, will host a book signing Saturday from 7-9 p.m. James Pratt, author of “The Last Valentine” (this year’s “Christmas Box”-type book), will be on hand. The event is free.

    MUSIC — CLASSICAL: BYU piano faculty member Dian Baker-Drinkall, tenor Lawrence Vincent and flutist Susan Goodfellow will present music by Franz Schubert and others in the Assembly Hall on Temple Square at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The concert is free.

    MOVIES — INTERNATIONAL CINEMA: Two films are showing at International Cinema this weekend. Information is provided by IC. “The Mission” (1986, 128 minutes) is an award-winning film starring Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons about two men struggling to bring a native tribe together. The film is in English and will be shown at 5 and 9:15 p.m. today; 2:50 and 7:15 p.m. Saturday. “The Spirit of the Beehive” (1974, 95 minutes) is about two little girls who see “Frankenstein” and seek to make it a reality. The New York Times called it “the best Spanish film ever made.” It’s in Spanish with English subtitles and will be shown at 3:15 and 7:25 p.m. today; 1, 5:20 and 9:35 p.m. Saturday. Admission to all shows is free with an IC card, $1 without.

    THEATER — COMEDY: Neil Simon’s classic comedy “Barefoot in the Park” will be performed at the Springville Playhouse, 50 S. Main (underneath the Springville Library), today and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The show is about two newlyweds who have to adjust to the differences in their personalities. Tickets are $4 for students, $5 general admission. Call 489-1067 for more information.

    THEATER — MUSICAL COMEDY: “Forever Plaid” will be performed at Provo Theatre Company, 105 E. 100 North, today and Saturday at 8 p.m. It’s a musical comedy that both parodies and pays homage to the music of the early ’60s.     THEATER — COMEDY: “Angels on the Loose” will be performed at the Hale Center Theater Orem, 225 W. 400 North, today and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The show, written by Orem resident Ruth Hale, is about a widow and widower whose dead spouses reluctantly help them find love.     MUSIC — VIOLIN: Violinist Joshua Bell will perform with the Utah Symphony today and Saturday at 8 p.m. at Abravanel Hall, 123 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City. Bell, who according to press materials is known for his “poetic musicality,” will plays music by Saint-Saens, Rossini and Shostakovich. Tickets are $12-31 and are available by calling 533-NOTE.
