Michael Stevenson “wanting compotent effort”
I read the Daily Universe every once in a while. A big reason it isn’t daily is that I feel it is a poorly written paper.
I am responding to the the Asian Awareness Week article published in your paper Friday. It was a case of some of the worst journalism I’ve have ever seen. There were a couple huge errors in the article. I know the people interviewed in the article, and I was outraged by the incompetence of the writer.
First, John Chan has no Native American blood in him. Second, the spelling error of Eddie Au was forgivable until the writer referenced “him” as “she”. Did the writer not personally interview him?
This is a tragic error that testifies of the poor journalism that exists at the Daily Universe. In the future, please put forth the effort to concentrate on the facts and basic information given by your sources, like their sex. If you meet or even talk over the phone you should be able to tell their sex.
