Random Acts of Service will be performed this week as a promotional service campaign being sponsored by BYUSA.

The purpose of the RAS campaign is to raise the awareness of BYUSA and the services it provides. It is also to initiate random acts of service among the students.

“I feel strongly that the students should be aware of what their service association does for them,” Kristian Watford, BYUSA president, said. Throughout the week, a 15-member RAS team will be performing small acts of service for people on campus. Types of service will include opening doors for students and brushing snow off of bicycle seats.

After a student has been R.A.S.ed, he or she will receive two “I’ve been R.A.S.ed” buttons. One button is to wear, and the other is to give to a student that you perform an act of service for. By the end of the week, nearly everyone on campus should be R.A.S.ed.

“There are two main reasons we’re doing RAS First, because we’re a service organization and instead of limiting the service to the BYUSA office, we want all the students to participate,” said Andrea Beck, vice president of Public Communications at BYUSA.

“Second, to educate the student body about BYUSA and let them know how they can access their student organization because BYUSA is for the students,” Beck said.

Other activities that will be conducted throughout the week are booths outside the library where free Hogi Yogi RASberry yogurt will be passed out and contests where students can win free T-shirts.

Throughout the week, URGENT bins will be placed in the library, Abraham O. Smoot Building, Joseph Smith Building and Cougareat for student to place canned goods in to help the Provo Food Bank with their emergency food drive.

Finalizing the service week will be a dance hosted on Saturday night at the Knight Mangum Building from 8:30 to 11:30. Students without ID are admitted for $3, students with ID are admitted for $2, and students with ID and a canned good or an “I’ve been R.A.S.ed” button are admitted for $1.
