In response to the overwhelming interest in James Christensen’s new book, “Voyage of the Basset,” Barnes and Noble will be hosting a book signing event for Christensen and Greg Newbold.

Christensen, artist and BYU professor of art, will be appearing in the Orem Barnes and Noble bookstore Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. to sign copies of his new book.

He will also be making an appearance at the new Barnes and Noble bookstore in Sandy, 10180 South State Street. He will be signing copies of his new book, as well as copies of his first book, “Journey of the Imagination,” Jan. 11, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Appearing with Christensen in the Orem store will be Newbold, artist and BYU alumnus, and his new book, “Touch of the Master’s Hand.” In “Touch of the Master’s Hand,” Newbold illustrates this poem originally written by Myra Welch.

Janice Johnson, community relation coordinator for the Barnes and Noble bookstore in Orem, is excited about both authors appearing at the Orem store.

“Mr. Newbold has masterfully illustrated Myra Welch’s poem into a heart-touching picture book for the young and old alike,” Johnson said.

“As for Christensen, we had him do a book signing last year. It was a tremendous success. We had people lined up outside the store waiting to get a signed copy of his new book at the time, “Journey of the Imagination,” Johnson said.

Booking Christensen was no easy accomplishment.

“It took a lot of work to get Christensen here for another book signing event. Between his teaching duties at BYU and his numerous other book signing engagements across the country we know we are very lucky to get him here,” Johnson said.

In recognition of Christensen’s appearance on Saturday, Barnes and Noble’s regularly scheduled storytime session will have a fairytale theme. “Our storytime hours, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., will be featuring favorite fairytales in honor in Christensen’s visit,” Johnson said.

Barnes and Noble will also be featuring a little princess who will be helping children make magic wands, Johnson said.
