All undergraduate and graduate students are invited to submit entries for the George H. Brimhall Founder’s Day Essay Contest.

The theme for the essay contest is “Echoes of Truth” which, according to Heidi Hastings, assistant coordinator of alumni and student programs, focuses on the traditions of BYU.

Essays must fulfill the following requirements: have between 500 and 1,500 words, be typed and double-spaced and have a cover sheet containing the student’s name, social security number, address, telephone number and the essay’s title.

Three copies of the essay should be turned in to the receptionist at the Alumni House by Friday, Sept. 27 at 5 p.m.

Winners of the contest will be notified on Oct. 2. Cash awards will be given to first, second and third place winners.

“First place undergraduate and graduate winners will be asked to read their essays at the Founder’s Day dinner on Oct. 9,” Hastings said.

The Brimhall essay contest is co-sponsored by the Brimhall family and BYU’s Student Alumni Association (SAS).

“Each year SAA picks a different family for Founder’s Day activities. This year we chose the David O. McKay family,” said SAA Program Director, Ashley Schofield.

The George H. Brimhall endowment fund was organized in remembrance the third BYU president.

“The family set up the fund so that (Brimhall) could be honored and remembered. The family also wanted to encourage further education,” said Vera Henniger, granddaughter of Brimhall.
