With over 18 Broadway musicals represented, the Musical Dance Theater Showcase will entertain its audiences with four shows Friday and Saturday.

The showcase, a collection of songs from well-known plays including “Annie,” “Anything Goes,” “Aint Misbehavin’,” “Nunsense” and “Jekyl and Hyde,” will represent a variety of styles ranging from opera to modern pop.

This variety is what makes the showcase so enjoyable, according to Becky Baumann, director of the showcase.

Baumann, a senior MDT major from Provo, said, “There is a lot of variety. Every number is so different. Every performer is so different. There is no way the audience can’t enjoy it because of the great variety.”

Special guest Bonnie Wilson will host the showcase as well as perform in some of the numbers. Wilson is from Salt Lake City and has performed nationally as well as locally in a variety of shows. Wilson is sure to delight all with her funny personality.

Baumann has been able to direct and form the numerous individual acts into one cohesive show.

“Having a cast of 25 has made it a challenge, but with everyone being so talented it has been fun,” Baumann said.

Started in 1993, the showcase’s proceeds go to a scholarship to pay for tuition to incoming MDT students.

Showtimes are 7:30 and 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Madsen Recital Hall in the HFAC.

Tickets are $4 for students, faculty and staff; $5 for Senior Citizens and BYU Alumni; and $6 for the general public. Call 378-4322 for tickets and information.
