BYU announced that the senior president of the Quorum of the Seventy Elder L. Whitney Clayton will be the scheduled speaker for the April 2016 commencement.
Elder Dallin H. Oaks will be BYU’s commencement speaker during exercises August 13. No tickets are required and seating is open. The Marriott Center opens two hours prior to the 4 p.m. ceremony. Those requiring special needs seating may contact the Special Events Office at (801) 422-6022 for assistance. Commencement usually lasts approximately an hour and a half.
The building’s expansion, announced in February, is right on track to being completed before Commencement in August, thanks to some clever problem-solving and a large crew of construction workers.
Kicking of a weekend of recognition for student’s academic achievements, Commencement saw addresses from Professor Robert P. George and former BYU President Cecil O. Samuelson who received honorary doctoral degrees at the event. President Worthen conducted the meeting with Elder Steven E. Snow presiding and providing the commencement speech.
