The BYU men’s basketball team announced their non-conference schedule for the 2012-2013 season.
The highlights of the schedule are the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic to be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn N.Y., eight home games, two contests at EnergySolutions Arena, three games against in-state foes and the chance to play five games against teams that appeared in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
“We have a nice balance of home, road and neutral games in our non-conference schedule that will prepare us for conference play and the postseason,” head coach Dave Rose said. “We have two in-state games at home, we have two quality opponents for the EnergySolutions games and the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic will be a great experience for our team. Our players and coaching staff are really looking forward to the upcoming season.”
The season begins with the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic with home games against Tennessee State (Nov. 9) and Georgia State (Nov. 13). The team will then head to Brooklyn and play in the semifinals with Florida State, Notre Dame and Saint Joseph’s on Nov. 16 and 17. The tournament pairings will be announced at a later date.
Along with their eight home games, BYU will play two games in EnergySolutions Arena against Montana on Nov. 28 and against Virginia Tech on Dec. 29.
BYU will play three-straight games against in-state opponents (Utah State-Dec. 5, Utah- Dec. 8, Weber State-Dec. 15) for the first time since 1992.
The preseason starts on Oct. 24 with the Cougar Tipoff and includes home exhibitions with Southeast Oklahoma State (Oct. 26) and Findlay (Nov. 3).
The West Coast Conference schedule will be announced in August. All game times and broadcast plans will be announced at a later date.
