BYU ends season with greatest upset since 1981

The Cougars upset the No.3 Gonzaga Bulldogs 73-70 Saturday night in front of a sold out crowd in the McCarthey Athletic Center, snapping the Bulldogs 41-game home winning streak.

Such a loss might cost Gonzaga their No. 1 spot in the NCAA tournament, but is bound to get BYU out of the bubble.

Kyle Collinsworth led the Cougars with 20 points, eight rebounds and three assists. He was named MVP of the night.

BYU volleyball sweeps Ball State once again

BYU volleyball swept the Ball State University Cardinals (25-21, 25-23, 25-19) Saturday in the second night of the teams’ competition.

Opposite hitter Matt Underwood led the team with 11 kills, while Brenden Sander and Price Jarman added nine and seven kills respectively.

“Tonight’s match, they were significantly better at serving it in and making us play,” BYU head coach Chris McGown said. “They got us out of system and we had to take some tough swings against a pretty good block.”

BYU Baseball gets second win of season against Oklahoma

BYU baseball lost three of their four games over the week to the Oklahoma Sooners in Las Vegas.

The Cougars first lost came on Thursday, when Oklahoma scored six runs to win 7-6. Kolton Mahoney struck out nine Sooners and gave BYU a 6-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth.

“Winning baseball is about quality pitching, playing defense and getting timely hitting and we are having a tough time doing all three in the same game,” coach Mike Littlewood said.

BYU women's basketball face #1 Gonzaga in last home game

BYU lost to Gonzaga 73-66 in their last home game of the season.

Makenzi Morrison led all scorers with 20 points.16 of those came from the free-throw line. Morgan Bailey had 17 points and nine rebounds in her last home game as a Cougar.

BYU softball undefeated in Mexico

BYU softball went undefeated through four games at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge tournament this weekend in Mexico. The Cougars defeated University of Nevada Reno (7-5), University of Northern Colorado (5-4) and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (8-0, 8-1).

The Cougars won the first NCAA softball game ever played outside the United States on Thursday against the Nevada Wolf Pack, 7-5.
