BYU’s Men’s and Women’s Choruses come together for a joint performance tonight in the de Jong Concert Hall at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.
“The concert is a mix of entertaining fun music and classical spiritual music,” said Austin Cope, a member of the Men’s Chorus. “We performed one of the songs together at the homecoming spectacular and it was a hit. This concert should be fun and uplifting.”
The Men’s Chorus, lead by Rosalind Hall, will start off the concert singing “Hymns of Praise.” This section will include “Praise the Lord, God’s Glories Show,” by David Shelat and “Sing Praise to Him” by J. Harold Moyer. They will also present a sect called “Grant Us Peace” including “Reconciliation,” by Stephen Chatman and “Loving-Kindness,” by Stephen Paulus.
“All of these songs are different kinds of texts but they all have the same theme in common,” Hall said. “This theme is mankind’s perpetual desire for a peaceful world.”
The Women’s Chorus, lead by Jean Applonie, will sing an array of classical works consisting of “Sanctus” by Agneta Skold, “No di voi no vo fidarmi” by G.F. Handel and “Jesus, Lover of My Soul” by Joseph P. Holbrook.
The choirs will then intermix for seven songs by Sir Arthur S. Sullivan. This section will include “Dance a cachuca,” “Climbing Over Rocky Mountain” and “The One of Us Will be a Queen.”
“This concert has an enormous variety of music with a lot of upbeat rhythmic pieces,” Hall said.
