The BYU men’s basketball team just landed one of the top recruits in the country, and they didn't have to look far for him.
Kyle Collinsworth, a versatile 6-foot-6 swingman from Provo High School, has verbally committed to play for BYU after being recruited by several of the nation's top programs, including Virginia, Arizona State, Stanford and USC.
“When I looked at everything, BYU was just the best fit for me,” Collinsworth said in an interview with the Deseret News. “I like the coaching staff and the style of play they play. It fits my style of play.”
He was Utah’s 4A MVP last year, averaging 18.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 3.6 steals per game while playing small forward, shooting guard and point guard.
“I hope to play a lot of minutes early in my career, and I want to handle the basketball a lot,” said Collinsworth, who plans to serve a mission after his freshman year.
Next season, Collinsworth will play with his older brother Chris, who is currently serving a mission in Australia.
Collinsworth's commitment was only verbal, and BYU coaches cannot comment until he officially signs with BYU in November.
ESPN.com says that “Collinsworth is a strong wing with a good basketball body … He understands how to pass and cut and fill a vacated area on the floor in order to help him get open.”

We are pretty excited about this recruit at the Hammond house. Who knew that my husband's obsession with following BYU Basketball would actually come to some good. Way to go Dallin on writing a great article and getting it published. That was a fun surprise this morning.
