RSL to take on DC United

Real Salt Lake will be put to the test against D.C. United Saturday at 7 p.m. at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Losing four recent games has crippled Real Salt Lake’s morale and put their high standings in the Western Conference at risk.

At the beginning of the season RSL quickly rose to the top, but because of fatigue and poor choices, other teams are gaining on RSL’s momentum. With the home field advantage, RSL hopes to reignite their success and come away this weekend with a strong win against D.C.

Last Wednesday, D.C. tied 2-2 against the New York Red Bulls and are looking to break some streaks of their own. They have lost their last five consecutive away games and will be working hard to win this weekend at the Rio Tinto Stadium. D.C. midfielder Dwayne De Rosario recently made history as the seventh person to score 100 goals in Major League Soccer and D.C. hopes to have the necessary shooting prowess to come away with a win.

RSL just ended a four game losing streak with a tie against the Philadelphia Union at the PPL Park two weeks ago.

“It was of great importance for us to get a result on the road,” midfielder Kyle Beckerman said according to RSL’s game guide. “Obviously, you always aim for the three points, but when that’s not there, and you get a point, you walk away with your head held high. We’ll take it and try and build off it.”

With both teams tied in their respective conference a win could tip the scales in either of their favors. RSL is tied for second against the Seattle Sounders and D.C. is tied for fourth against the Chicago Fire.

This game will be the only time RSL plays D.C. United in the regular season, making this match a one-time opportunity for success.

After Saturday’s match against D.C., Real Salt Lake will head to Texas to play the Houston Dynamo on Thursday, September 6.
