Although a parking garage isn’t a typical hangout for most people, it is the place to be during a summer in Provo.

The Rooftop Concert Series is an organization that gathers local talent and business freebies at a unique outdoor location, Provo Town Square parking garage roof, to provide free monthly concerts for all ages.

“The rooftop concerts are like nothing else because you get to be out in the great weather of spring and summer with the beautiful backdrop of the mountains,” said Christa Woodall, a BYU graduate from Salt Lake City and rooftop concert attendee from summer 2011.

Each concert hosts a new musical artist or group which keeps the event fresh and attractive to every audience member.

Woodall said she enjoys attending the concerts because of the cozy setting. The unusual location provides a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for the audience to connect with the artists.

“There wasn’t as much of a barrier,” Woodall said.

The founders, CJane Kendrick, Justin Hackworth, Mindy Gledhill and Sarah Wiley, shared a belief in nourishing local talent and promoting unity in the area.

Professional photographer and one of the co-founders, Justin Hackworth said the rooftop concerts are perfect for students and families because they are “free and fun.”

Woodall said she enjoyed the the laidback environment.

“Downtown Provo is so hip right now,” she said. “Nothing like it was when I went to BYU.”

Organizations such as the Rooftop Concert Series and Downtown Provo, Inc. are working hard to create a more inviting environment with events such as concerts and The Gallery Stroll. Events that are interesting, fun and free.

“I cannot think of a more perfect date than to stroll the art galleries downtown, grab some dinner at one of the many different dining options, sit down and enjoy the music and sunset.”

The concerts will be the first Friday of every month from May – Oct. at the Provo Town Square parking garage, corner of 100 N. and 100 W. Each will have  giveaways, great music and a fun crowd.

Peter Breinholt will be performing with Ryan Innes this Friday. To find out about upcoming performances, go to rooftopconcertseries.com.
