Gymnasts hope to rebound against Southern Utah

The women’s gymnastics team looks for its first win of the season as it competes away against Southern Utah tonight.

This is only the second meet of the season, but BYU is ready to move on from the loss against North Carolina State last weekend. The team remains positive despite the season-opening loss, especially because competition has barely gotten under way.

The gymnastics preseason lasts between four and five months, so just being able to compete again every week keeps the team focused and excited. The gymnasts are ready to achieve the rewards that come as a result of training so hard for so long.

The Cougars and Thunderbirds split victories between their two meetings last season. However, over the past seven meets, SUU holds a 6-1 advantage over BYU. This season should prove no less competitive as the teams will meet a total of three times throughout the season, twice in Provo.

If you plan on heading down to Cedar City for the meet, know that you can receive discounted admission by bringing nonperishable food items. According to an SUU news release, this is part of the university’s annual “Food Fight” and the items received will be donated to the local Care and Share shelter. The meet begins at 7 p.m.

The BYU women’s gymnastics team next competes away against Utah on Jan. 27. The team will compete at home for the first time this season against Boise State on Feb. 4.
